WHY TOUGHENED GLASS?

Glass can bring a real touch of class to your home, but when it comes to applying it to your interior or exterior home design, it’s extremely important that you opt for material that’s been tempered, or in other words, toughened.

Why is this?  It’s all about safety.  Toughened glass is exactly what it says it is – it’s glass that has been manufactured specifically for the intention of lowering the risk of shattering, therefore protecting its users from potentially serious injury.  It’s made from a thorough chemical process that involves heating, air conditioning and hardening the material to ensure that it is less likely to both break and cause debris.  It’s stated that specifically-toughened glass can be up to five times stronger than the standard – there’s a real difference, and it’s plain to see why its use is becoming more and more attractive.

Toughened glass doesn’t just look good, nor is it purely a safety measure – it’s also extremely easy to clear up, too.  Pure glass can be extremely dangerous even after it’s been broken and it’s often precarious to dispose of due to risk of further injury – tempered glass, however, is easily disposed of should the worst happened.  There are less shards likely to cause cuts or slices should you need to clear it up, and you can even run a vacuum cleaner over much debris it may leave behind.  So even if the unthinkable happens – it’s really not the end of the world!

When it comes to home improvement, toughened glass can look fantastic – if you’re interested in adding transparency to your staircase, or you’re looking for a balcony or mezzanine with a view, Diomet can help provide you with a great-looking solution.  As well as offering a range of pre-cut shapes and sizes that can easily be installed around the home, we also offer a bespoke glass cutting service – meaning that if you have the dimensions, we have the know-how and the ability.

Toughened glass appeals to many people – you’ve probably seen it in use in public buildings, such as doctor’s surgeries, university buildings, or shopping precincts.  There’s a big appeal for toughened glass to the public sector due to its increased safety, but there’s also the added benefit that it looks fantastic – particularly in comparison with plain sheet glass!

Toughened glass production is also well-regulated - while the process in creating its magic formula is thorough, so is the regulation.  As this is material which is commonly used in public areas (while it’s an extremely popular choice for home improvement too), it’s important that every last piece of glass is assured to meet relevant regulations in order for the public to be protected even further.  Going for toughened glass really is win-win if you’re looking for a safe, good-looking alternative look for your home, office or building.
