Mild Steel

Mild steel contains a small amount of carbon and is simple to weld, cost effective and easier to shape and bend in comparison to stainless steel and is therefore widely used in the construction industry.

DioMet use mild steel for staircases, balustrades, handrails, balconies, gates etc. and once fabricated all of these products require a finish otherwise they will simply rust in a matter of days when used externally.

The standard finish applied to mild steel is to have it galvanized although other options are available such as primer painting, glossing and powdercoating.

Mild steel used internally can be powdercoated without the need to galvanize although in most cases we do recommend that the steel is shot-blasted to remove any mill-scale prior to painting for a higher quality overall finish.
