A handrail on its own posts, for ramps, steps and staircases where there is no wall to fix back to — and for wider steps, where one wall rail is not enough and a second set is needed out in the open. 42mm tubular rail on 48mm tubular posts in 316 grade brushed stainless, the external grade. It can be used inside too, though in practice almost everything we make on posts goes outdoors.

Height, length and joints

Standard height is 900mm. Length is a different question: 3500mm is the longest single section a courier will carry, not the longest rail we make. Longer runs come in sections with the joints sleeved internally, splitting over a post. You will still see a line where two sections meet — but it is a neat one, not a great clamp bracket sat on the outside of the rail. The dropdown runs to 5 metres, and if you need more than that, ask.

Order online to the nearest size with your dimensions, and we will send a drawing for your approval before anything is made.

How it fixes down

Two options, and it is worth deciding before you order. Posts can be left long to concrete into the ground, or supplied with a base plate to bolt down onto an existing slab or step. Tell us which when you order.

What arrives, and what fitting involves

It turns up ready to go up. Rails come pre-drilled and tapped, end caps are already fitted, and the posts are pre-assembled. There is no cutting, drilling or welding to do on site and no skilled trade needed — general DIY skills are enough.

If you would rather we did it, we quote for fitting. Call 0114 243 9009 or email sales@diometonline.co.uk.

Delivery

Made to order, so lead times move with the workload. Ask us for a current estimate when you enquire.

Is there a drop to guard?

Worth checking before you order. A handrail is something to hold on to. Where there is a fall to one side — the open edge of a flight of steps, a raised path, a landing — what is usually needed is a balustrade, which fills the gap rather than giving you a single rail at hand height. Our balustrade range covers both glass and metal. Send us a photograph if you are not sure which your situation calls for; the final say is your building control officer’s.

Heights and regulations

Our handrail building regulations guide covers heights, continuity and where a second rail is needed. We build to whatever your project requires; what needs signing off is for your building control officer, not us.
