Project: Elevated Infinity Terrace Balcony – Northamptonshire

This project in Northamptonshire demonstrates the seamless integration of modern materials into a residential landscape. Our client, Tony, required a walkout balcony that maximized his property’s panoramic views without the visual obstruction of traditional railings. The solution was a bespoke variation of our Infinity Walkout Balcony system.

The Specification: Infinity Design

The project was engineered for durability and a minimalist "borderless" aesthetic:

• Structural Steelwork: Finished in RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey, providing a sleek, contemporary foundation that complements modern window profiles.

• Frameless Balustrade: Our Infinity base-channel glass system was used to provide total security. By removing the need for handrails or vertical posts, the balcony offers an uninterrupted line of sight.

• Decking & Joists: To ensure longevity, we utilized steel trimmer joists and composite decking. This "zero-timber" approach eliminates the risk of rot and significantly reduces long-term maintenance.

As a direct manufacturer, we supply our balcony kits nationwide. For this project, Tony managed the installation himself. Each component was precision-engineered in our workshop to ensure that the "self-installation" process was straightforward for a competent person, with all structural elements arriving ready for assembly.

Technical Expert Insight: Solving the Timber Rot Problem

A common issue with traditional walkout balconies is the use of timber joists for the floor deck. Even when pressure-treated, timber enclosed within a metal frame often traps moisture, leading to internal rot that compromises the structure's safety over 10–15 years.

At Dio-Met, we solve this by using steel trimmer joists as standard in our walkout systems. Steel does not warp, shrink, or rot. When paired with composite decking, as seen in this Northamptonshire project, the entire floor system becomes essentially maintenance-free. This shift to an all-metal and composite sub-structure is a critical consideration for any elevated terrace, ensuring the balcony remains UKCA-certified and structurally sound for decades rather than years.
