Dio-Met's powder coated steel handrails on posts are a practical, good looking solution for steps, ramps and staircases — residential or commercial. Made to order in our Sheffield factory, every handrail is built to your exact dimensions rather than cut down from a stock length.
The standard construction uses 42mm tubular steel rails on 48mm posts, galvanised for corrosion resistance then powder coated in your chosen RAL colour. Black, white, anthracite grey and dark green are the most popular choices, though we can match virtually any RAL.
Standard height is 900mm, with custom heights available. On length, 3500mm is the longest single section a courier will take rather than the longest rail we make — longer runs are jointed internally over a post, and the listing runs to 5 metres. Posts can be supplied with extended bases for concreting in, or with base plates for bolting to an existing surface — whichever suits your installation.
Order online to your nearest size and we will be in touch to confirm the exact specification and provide a drawing for your approval before we go into production. Most customers find these straightforward to install without specialist help.
Call us on 0114 243 9009 or email sales@diometonline.co.uk with your dimensions and we will get a quote back to you quickly.
What arrives, and what fitting involves
Everything is prepared in the workshop rather than left for site. The rails are pre-drilled and tapped, the end caps are fitted, and the posts arrive pre-assembled — so there is nothing to cut, drill or weld when it reaches you, and you do not need a fabricator or a welder. General DIY skills will see it installed.
Where these get used
Steps, ramps and staircases where there is no wall to fix a rail back to, and wider steps where one wall rail is not enough and a second set is needed out in the open. Residential or commercial — usually the only difference is the colour. Almost all of these go outside, which is why they are galvanised before painting, but there is nothing stopping an internal one if that is what the space needs.
Handrail, or balustrade?
If the steps have an open side with a drop off it, a handrail on its own is often not what is wanted — a balustrade fills the gap between rail and ground, where a handrail only gives you something to hold. Our balustrade range covers glass and metal versions in the same finishes. Not sure? Send a photograph and we will tell you what we would fit, though what your project has to comply with is for building control to decide.
Heights and regulations
Heights, continuity and second rails are covered in our handrail building regulations guide. We build to what your project requires; the sign-off is your building control officer’s call.
