A walk-out Juliet balcony with glass balustrade — a Juliet you can actually step out onto, rather than one that sits flat against the wall.
UKCA certified — a legal requirement, not a badge
This Juliet is UKCA marked to BS EN 1090-2. Structural steelwork has to be, by law, and that holds on a house as firmly as on a commercial job. Ask about it before you order rather than once the balcony is on the wall.
How it stays up without posts
The platform hangs off the wall, so nothing comes down to the ground — nothing to build round at ground level, nothing standing in a flower bed, no foundations to dig.
You choose how it is carried. Either more substantial metal bracketry on its own, with no tie rods at all, or a slightly slimmer gallows frame that uses tie rods to help take the load. The heavier brackets keep everything below the platform; the slimmer frame puts less bulk underneath but adds rods above it. Same balcony either way — tell us which you would rather look at and we will price it.
It will project up to 1200mm deep, though a metre is the usual choice. That is enough to stand out on with a coffee, put a couple of pots or a chair out, and reach the windows to clean them — without the structural work a full balcony needs.
The balustrade is toughened glass, so the view from inside the room stays open. If you would prefer metal railings, the same platform is available as a walk-out juliet with metal balustrade.
What it hangs off
A step-out Juliet will hang off any solid, flat surface. That is the requirement, and it is the one thing we are firm about.
What we do not do is assess what your wall is made of. We do not assert wall construction — if that needs establishing, it is a job for a structural engineer, and on an older or unusual building it is worth doing before you order. Our certification covers a balcony fixed to a solid surface. It does not extend to the surface itself.
How it is built
- Steel joists, galvanised and powder coated. Timber is the cheaper alternative and a lot of systems use it, but it rots, warps and burns, and on a hung Juliet the platform is doing structural work. Ours is steel.
- Composite decking on top, anthracite grey as standard with other colours at extra cost. Nothing to treat each spring.
- Glass balustrade on the platform. The guarding is the part that changes across our walk-out range; the deck and the structure under it are the same on all of them.
Sizing and what is included
Listed sizes run to 2000 x 1000mm, and those are the ones the calculator prices. The true maximum is 2400mm wide x 1200mm deep — we simply do not list it, because past the listed size the steel sections change and the gallows brackets have to be redesigned to suit. If you want one of the larger ones, ask and we will quote it properly.
- Made to your own dimensions — the standard sizes listed are for pricing, not a limit
- All steelwork, glass and fittings, supplied in bolt-together kit form
- Assembly fixings included; base and wall fixings are separate, because they depend entirely on what you are fixing to
- UKCA marked to BS EN 1090-2 — a legal requirement for structural steelwork, on domestic work as much as commercial
- Structural calculations available on request
Finish
Galvanised first, powder coated after: colour on the outside, corrosion protection underneath. Any shade you like. Details on our material and finish standards page.
Which walk-out balcony do you need?
Two families. This is a step-out Juliet: about a metre deep, hung off the wall, no posts. Full walk-outs are the larger option, properly supported, and come in three balustrade styles.
- Walk-out juliet with glass balustrade — the one you are looking at.
- Walk-out juliet with metal balustrade
- Framed glass balustrade — glass in a steel frame, the practical all-rounder
- Infinity frameless glass — no frame at the sides, nothing interrupting the view
- Ornate wrought iron — traditional railings for a period property
Before you order
Guarding heights, loadings and what needs approval are in our balcony and Juliet building regulations guide.
Delivery and installation
Supplied nationwide as a bolt-together kit, assembly fixings included.
Fitting is an optional extra. Our own teams travel, and on a hung Juliet the fixings are the whole job, so it is often the sensible option.
Call 0114 243 9009 or email sales@diometonline.co.uk with the door opening size and a photograph of the wall outside it.
A note on specification
This is guidance, not a structural specification. The wall you hang a Juliet from decides more than the Juliet does, so have it assessed by your engineer or building control before you order.
