15mm clear toughened glass, cut to your sizes. This is our frameless balustrade thickness — the one to use when there is no frame at the sides and the glass is carrying far more of the load itself.

What 15mm is for

Frameless balustrades where a handrail is used. The panels are set into a base channel or spigots with nothing at the sides, and a handrail runs along the top. With no frame doing the work, the glass has to be substantially thicker than a framed infill.

That combination — frameless, but with a handrail — is the specific case 15mm answers.

The handrail is the deciding factor

If your frameless balustrade has no handrail at all, thicker single-pane glass is not the answer. That is a case for laminated glass, where an interlayer holds the panel together and keeps it in the opening if it breaks. Our glass balustrade regulations guide sets out why.

And if the balustrade is framed rather than frameless — channel, clamps, posts — you are almost certainly looking at 10mm, our standard infill, or 12mm for an internal domestic run with a handrail. Both cost less than 15mm.

Frameless work is the least forgiving thing we quote, so send the sizes, the heights and a note of what is fixing the glass at the bottom. We would rather ask than guess.

Ordering and delivery

Every panel is made to your own dimensions, to the millimetre. We do not hold standard sizes and there is no stock list to pick from — put the length and height you need into the calculator and the price shown is for that exact panel, cut and toughened for your job.

Tell us about any holes, cut-outs, notches or radius corners at the same time. Toughened glass cannot be cut or drilled once it has been through the furnace, so everything has to be done before it is toughened and nothing can be trimmed on site.
