Side-Fixed Glass Balustrade System 7 (frameless)

A frameless glass balustrade that fixes to the side of the structure rather than sitting on top of it. The glass is bolted through its face with stainless steel fixings to the edge of a staircase, landing or balcony, so nothing sits on the walking surface and the glass appears to float off the edge. It is a favourite for feature staircases and for balconies where you want to keep the full floor width. Buy it by the metre online or ask us for a bespoke made-to-measure quote. Everything is made at our Sheffield factory, supply-only as a self-install kit or installed by us anywhere in the UK.

Why side-fixed

Fixing to the side, rather than into a base channel on the floor, keeps the deck or tread completely clear and lets the glass stand proud of the edge, which is why it suits staircases and raised balconies so well. You see glass and slim stainless bolts, nothing else. It is UKCA marked and building-regulation compliant.

Glass and handrail: getting it compliant

15mm toughened glass with a 42mm stainless steel slotted handrail. The handrail ties the tops of the panels together, which is usually what is needed where you are guarding a fall and want a rail to hold. The handrail comes complete with all rubber gaskets.
Laminated glass, no handrail. Where a handrail is not wanted, for example some landings, laminated glass should be used instead, as it holds together if a pane is damaged. Laminated glass is available at extra cost, so contact us for a quote.

A frameless kit built to go together on site

The bolts and fittings come ready to fix, so the kit goes together with reasonable DIY skills and the basic fixing instructions we provide, and we are a phone call away if you need a steer. Side-fixing does need a sound, suitable edge to bolt into, so if you are unsure about your structure, send us a photo and we will advise. Prefer not to fit it yourself? We can quote for professional installation too.

How to order

If your run works out close to a round meterage, use the online calculator to pick the meterage, whether you want the slotted handrail, and the number of corners. We then get in touch, produce a drawing for you to confirm, and make any tweaks before fabrication so you know exactly what you are getting and that it fits. Delivery and lead times

Lead times vary with the workshop schedule, so please ask when you enquire, and we will arrange delivery on a day that suits you.

International delivery

We ship worldwide. On made-to-measure runs we quote overseas carriage per order once we have the sizes and delivery address, crated to travel safely.

Looking after it

Glass and stainless steel need only occasional upkeep. A wipe-over with any general glass or stainless cleaning product keeps it looking its best, a little more often near the coast.
