33mm Walk-On Floor Glass Panel (Made to Measure)

Heavy-duty walk-on floor glass, cut to your size. What sets 33mm apart is the build: three 10mm toughened panels laminated into one, rather than the two thicker plies used on our 31.5mm and 39mm panels. Three layers give plenty of load capacity for busy, high-traffic floors, with a spare ply of redundancy built in. Supplied as glass only, ready to seat into your opening or frame. Want it complete with a steel support frame? See our walk-on glass floor with steel framework.

Build and finish

  • 33mm toughened and laminated glass: three 10mm toughened panels bonded into one
  • All edges polished as standard, with a 5mm radius to each corner
  • Supplied as glass only; a steel support frame can be made to order if you need one

Which thickness is right comes down to the span, where it sits, how it will be used and how it is supported, so run anything unusual past a structural glass engineer before ordering.

Non-slip finishes

Non-slip is an optional extra, and we would strongly advise taking it. Glass is inherently slippery underfoot, and the only case where we would tell you not to bother is a panel tucked away in a corner that is unlikely to be walked on. There are two ways to do it and they suit different situations.

Invisible non-slip coating — what we strongly advise for internal floors. A clear chemical treatment that makes no visible difference to the glass whatsoever, which is the question almost everybody asks before they order. You keep the clarity and the view straight through the panel. It reaches a Pendulum Test Value (PTV) of 68, against the 36 needed to count as low slip risk in the dry, and lasts around five years before it wants redoing.

Checkerplate top layer — for glass that gets wet. A raised, sandblasted checkerplate texture on the top panel, and the highest grip option we offer. The trade-off is worth being straight about: it visibly obscures the glass. Where the panel is there to bring daylight into the space below, that is usually no problem at all. Where it is there to be looked through, it changes the thing you bought it for.

So: internal and dry, the invisible coating and you would never know it was on there. Wet, or outside where it will be rained on, checkerplate is the safer answer.

Border and condensation options

  • Back-painted border: a coloured band around the perimeter that masks the seating detail, and any silicone or fixings, when viewed from above.
  • Ritec anti-condensation coating: an underside coating that encourages condensation to sheet off rather than settle; it eases the problem without solving it, so tackle the cause as well

Other floor-glass thicknesses

Smaller openings can take our 21.5mm or 25.5mm floor glass; between those and this you will find the 31.5mm panel, and for the very largest spans there is 39mm. Our glass floor building regulations guide sets out how thickness relates to span and why laminated glass is required, and it remains the customer's job to confirm the glass meets their own building control sign-off.

Choosing a floor glass thickness

Floor glass is sized on the panel, not on a rule of thumb, and the honest position is that we would rather size it with you than have you guess. As a broad steer:

  • 25.5mm — domestic, smaller spans. Suits panels up to around 1000mm in one direction: a long narrow panel such as 3000 x 1000mm is fine, whereas 1000 x 1010mm is not. In most applications we advise 25.5mm up to about 1000 x 1000mm, and above that considering a thicker panel even where 25.5mm technically works.
  • 31.5mm and 33mm — larger spans and busier floors. These two are extremely similar in performance. 33mm is often specified because it is built from three layers rather than two, which gives an additional level of protection, and that is usually the reason people choose it over 31.5mm. Our practical ceiling in either is around 2000 x 1500mm, and we stop there deliberately — past that size the limit is not really the glass, it is weight and what can sensibly be delivered and lifted into place.
  • 39mm — generally a commercial floor thickness.

Send us the opening size, how the panel will be supported and what will be walking on it, and we will tell you what we would supply. Getting this right at quote stage costs nothing; getting it wrong costs a panel.

Made to order

Each 33mm panel is cut to your size, usually within about four weeks, and we arrange delivery once it is ready. For a cheaper ready-made option, look at our stock glass panels.

International delivery

We ship internationally. Because every panel is cut to order, we price overseas carriage per job once we have the size and destination, crated to travel safely.

A note on specification

The guidance on this page reflects what we typically supply for jobs of this kind and is offered in good faith to help you order the right thing. It is not a structural specification and it is not a substitute for project-specific design. Walk-on glass is a structural element: spans, support conditions, edge bearing, imposed loads, point loads and use all vary from site to site, and suitability for your particular opening remains the responsibility of you, your designer, your structural engineer or your building control body. We manufacture and supply to the sizes and specification you give us. If you are in any doubt, send us the details before ordering, or have them confirmed by your engineer.
