Dio-Met meticulously installed approximately 80 metres of frameless glass balustrades across various terraces, balconies, and garden patios throughout the property.

Modern Design and Uninterrupted Views

The use of frameless glass balustrades provides a seamless transition between the interior living spaces and the lush Sheffield countryside. By removing visual barriers, the design creates a sense of infinite space while maintaining a sleek, contemporary aesthetic.

Key features of this large-scale installation include:

• Toughened and Laminated Safety Glass: Every panel meets BS6180 requirements and building regulations. The lamination process ensures that if the glass is ever compromised, the panels remain structurally intact.

• Black Powder-Coated Base Channels: The glass is secured in specialized base channels, powder-coated in black to complement the property's stonework and provide long-term weather resistance.

• Frosted Privacy Screens: Raised, opaque glass screens were integrated into balcony areas. These serve the dual purpose of meeting planning requirements for privacy while acting as effective wind barriers.

• Precision Builder Collaboration: A standout feature of this project was the foresight of the main contractor, who collaborated with us and backfilled all mounting walls with concrete. This provided the perfect structural substrate for a high-tension frameless installation.

Technical Expert Insight

When installing 80 metres of frameless glass, the substrate is everything. On many sites, balustrades are an afterthought, but here the builder backfilled the walls with concrete specifically for our fixings. This is vital because frameless glass acts like a giant lever; without a solid concrete core, the fixings can 'crush' into standard blockwork over time, leading to panel misalignment or wobble. Because we utilized toughened and laminated glass, we were able to omit a handrail entirely while remaining fully compliant with building regulations. The laminate interlayer provides the necessary 'fail-safe'—even if the toughened glass shatters, the interlayer holds the pane upright and prevents a fall from height.
