Project Spotlight: A Comprehensive Steel and Glass Transformation in Cawthorne, Barnsley
Renovating a property requires a delicate balance of preserving character while introducing modern, functional design. Our ongoing project for our client, Hariette, in the beautiful village of Cawthorne, Barnsley, is a perfect example of this synergy in action.
Building Trust Through Quality
Hariette originally approached Dio-Met with a specific problem: she needed a high-quality glass well cover. Her previous fabricator had proven unreliable, and the quality of their work did not meet the high standards required for such a prestigious renovation.
After we successfully designed, manufactured, and delivered two internal walk-on glass floor panels and their supporting steel frames, Hariette gained the confidence to entrust us with the entire steelwork and glazing package for the remainder of her home.
Expanding the Vision: From Internal Floors to External Terraces
What started as a single floor panel has evolved into an extensive suite of architectural features. We took over the design, manufacture, and installation of several key elements:
-
A Large Decked Terrace: We fabricated and installed a large external steel terrace extension balustrade, creating a stunning outdoor living space.
-
Frameless Glass Balustrades: To maintain unobstructed views of the Barnsley countryside, we installed sleek, frameless glass balustrades around the entire perimeter of the new terrace.
-
Integrated Walk-On Glass: Continuing the theme from the interior, we integrated a structural walk-on glass floor panel into the external decking, allowing light to flood the area below.
-
Steel Access Staircase: A bespoke, heavy-duty steel staircase was fabricated in our Sheffield workshop to provide elegant and secure access from the terrace down to the garden.
-
In Progress : Various galvanized and powdercoated metal railings are also being installed around the property to define borders and protect any dangerous falls from height.
Architectural Finesse: The Juliet Balcony
On the first floor, we added a touch of contemporary elegance by installing a frameless glass Juliet balcony to the first-floor French doors. This minimalist design provides essential safety without compromising the aesthetic of the stone masonry, ensuring the room remains bright and airy. This simple design uses an aluminium channel at either side of the opening, with toughened and laminated safety glass inserted in-between to form the safety barrier and clean view.
An Ongoing Partnership
This project in Cawthorne is still ongoing, and we are incredibly proud of the transformation so far. It serves as a testament to why homeowners and developers choose Dio-Met: when other fabricators fall short on reliability or quality, we deliver precision-engineered solutions that stand the test of time.
Whether it’s a single well cover or a full-scale structural steel and glass renovation, our team brings the same level of Sheffield-born craftsmanship to every detail.
