Case Study - Lowfields Project Sheffield

Lowfields Project - Sheffield South Yorkshire

Client : Sheffield City Council

Main Contractor : William Birch & Sons LTD

Completion : April 2011

Overview

The Lowfields Project comprised construction of a youth recreation centre just outside Sheffield City Centre including a state of the art 3G football pitch and changing facilities adding green areas to a less popular area of the city. DioMet were contracted to manufacture and install various steelwork products throughout the site including :

Sliding Door Security Screens

At DioMet we manufacture various gate designs but these sliding grilles were a new challenge in terms of design and functionality. Each gate runs on a top track with bottom pin locator and is approximately 3metres x 3metres, quite a piece of kit. Each sliding gate was manufactured to be built up in DIY kit form due to their size whilst incorporating an Italian made mesh known as Orsogrill. The gates are galvanized finish for a maintenance free, weather-proof finish highly resistant to abrasion.

We also manufactured and installed a decorative wall feature - Matching steelwork ring built into a stone wall.

External Handrails

Various areas had external handrails installed. These were twin rail manufactured handrails due to the high footfall from young children. All handrails were galvanised and powdercoated finish for a high quality maintenance free finish. Installed by core drilling the steps and grouting in with cover discs.

Handrails were powder coated in two colours and therefore made in individual component parts for site assembly.

External Balustrade

The rooftop of this Sheffield project was extensively guarded by DioMet's designed balustrade system comprising fabricated steel baluster posts with Orsogrill mesh infill panels, the balustrade also included stainless steel wire rope infills and offset tubular handrails. All mild steel used in the roof balustrade was galvanised finish and once fitted gave an impressive overall visual effect.
