The "Infinity" View with Structural Security The primary objective for this raised deck was to create a "seamless" transition between the living space and the landscape. Unlike traditional posted systems, System 4 uses a continuous base channel to secure the glass from the bottom, removing the need for vertical uprights.

• Unobstructed Clarity: We used 15mm toughened glass to provide the structural rigidity required for a frameless look where no baluster posts are used. 

• Integrated Handrail: To provide the user with a tactile sense of security, a 42mm stainless steel slotted handrail was fitted over the top edge. This adds structural strength to the glass run while offering a comfortable leaning surface.Where handrails are omitted, a laminated glass is required. 

• Precision Levelling: The system features an adjustable base channel, which is critical for decking projects where timber may settle or expand over time, allowing for a perfectly plumb glass finish.

Technical Expert Insight: Structural Fixing to Timber Decking

Installing a frameless glass system onto a timber deck requires significantly different engineering than a concrete fix. Because System 4 exerts high leverage on the base channel when leaned upon, the underlying decking joists must be reinforced. We advise installers to "double up" or "block out" the perimeter joists to provide a solid substrate for our heavy-duty fixings. Without this structural "meat" in the timber, even the best glass system will suffer from flex or bounce. By ensuring a rigid connection to the primary frame of the deck, we ensure the 0.74kN residential load requirement is met, providing a rock-solid finish that feels as secure as a masonry wall.
