Semi-Framed Glass Balustrade
Low-Level Patio Railings
A semi-framed design of glass balustrade features baluster support posts with glazed infill panels, without a handrail. Generally the handrail can only be omitted under specific instruction from building control or where the balustrade guards a fall of less than 600mm, for low-level patios and garden divides or privacy screens.
Removing a handrail from the design does however offer some added benefits :
1) Cost - The price of a fully framed glass balustrade complete with handrail will be considerably more expensive than one without the rail due to the increase in materials and labour required.
2) Vision - Without a handrail, the semi-framed glass balustrade system seems more open and allows a clearer, less obstructed view from inside the balustrade area.
3) Flexibility - Pre-drilled handrails will set out your post positions with limited flexibility. Using a semi-framed design will allow further tolerance during installation without being tied to the handrail dimensions.
4) Adaptability - A handrail can always be included at a later date if required. Remove the post caps and install handrail connectors to retro-fit a handrail when required.
