Uses of Toughened Glass
Toughened Glass Uses
Toughened glass is now used in around 75% of all our projects due to its versatility as a luxurious building material. We use toughened glass in many of our standard online balcony, balustrade and canopy designs as well as supplying it in made-to-measure panels for your own DIY projects.
Here are some recent examples of where our toughened safety glass panels have been used in the last two weeks:
V8 Engine Block Feature Table
Our customer Zoe over in the Isle of Wight regularly purchases custom sized toughened glass panels for use as table tops and counters- This time they have created a stunning feature coffee table using our 10mm clear toughened glass and a cleaned up V8 engine block. These tables became popular a number of years ago, particularly after one was seen on TV show Top Gear.
No prizes for guessing what the same client has just ordered a round piece of 10mm toughened glass for…..
Glass Juliet Balcony
One of our most popular products is the modern designed glass Juliet balcony that comprises stainless steel uprights and handrail complete with clear toughened glass infills – we call this design the ‘Elegance’. These balconies are available in a range of standard sizes to suit the most popular door opening sizes on the market or indeed made to measure to suit any odd-ball sizes that crop up. Our customer in this instance was delighted with the overall finish, and kindly provided a photograph of the DIY installed Juliet once completed.
Each panel of 10mm clear toughened glass for this balcony design is secured with 4 stainless steel glass clamps which are affixed to the upright supporting posts, complete with security pins through the glass to prevent any slippages.
Bespoke Glass Balustrade
A glass balustrade has recently been completed for our customer Matt, a stone’s throw away from ourselves in the Barnsley region (if you can throw a stone about 15 miles that is). The balustrade matches the design of the previous example, using our two most popular building materials : stainless steel hardware with clear toughened safety glass infill panels.
The balustrade system follows the staircase up two flights and then across a large galleried landing to create a bright, open and spacious feel to the high-ceiling room. Although many of our glass and balustrade systems are supplied and delivered across the country, this particular example was given the full works; survey, design, manufacture and installation by DioMet and the design used is a variation of our System 1 Balustrade.
Glass Kitchen Splashback
Simple, but effective; toughened glass splashbacks are a regular request for use in and around the kitchen as they not only look good, they are easy to clean and maintain. A recent example picture was returned to us by our customer McCauley, who opted for a backpainted black splashback panel with low-iron safety glass to match the electric hob system.
The above are simply some examples of how our toughened glass has been used over the past few weeks and there are countless applications for this made-to-measure product around the home, garden and office.
