Project: Bespoke 5-Metre Glass Floor & Wine Cellar Hatch – Norway

In the heart of a stylish Norwegian bar, we recently completed one of our most impressive international projects to date. This installation serves as a perfect showcase of how Dio-Met’s structural glass systems can transform a commercial space into a breathtaking architectural feature.

The Specification: A 5-Metre Glass Tapestry

The client required a seamless visual connection between the main bar area and the wine cellar below. We designed a massive, integrated glass floor system that spans a full five metres.

  • Hinged Access: A structural hinged glass door provides a portal to the cellar, engineered for effortless use despite the heavy-duty glass.

  • Fixed Panels: A series of large, fixed walk-on glass panels create a transparent floor across the seating area.

  • The "Mood": Integrated LED lighting within the cellar illuminates the glass from below, turning the entire floor into a glowing pink and purple centerpiece.

  • Internal Access: We also manufactured and supplied the internal steel staircase to provide a safe, industrial-chic transition into the cellar depths.

Direct Worldwide Supply

Shipping a five-metre structural glass system to Norway requires precision logistics. As the world’s leading direct supplier of wine cellar doors, we ensured the entire system was fully fabricated and securely packaged for international transit. Our cellar doors come fully assembled with the fixed panels all made to bolt together to fill the space, making the final installation simple for any competent contractor, regardless of their location.

Technical Expert Insight: Structural Glass in High-Traffic Commercial Zones

For a project of this scale in a public bar, the technical requirements for walk-on glass go far beyond standard residential use.

At Dio-Met, we solve the "deflection" challenge of large-span glass by using multi-laminated, toughened glass panels designed to meet specific commercial point-load requirements. In a bar environment, the glass must not only support the weight of furniture and heavy foot traffic but also remain perfectly rigid to prevent the "bounce" often felt in inferior systems. Furthermore, we specify a specialized non-slip coating for the glass surface to ensure safety in areas where liquid spills are common, all while maintaining the crystal-clear transparency needed to showcase the cellar below.
