Caravan Park Lodge Glass
Dio-Met Fabrications Ltd: Enhancing Safety and Style at Cardoness Caravan Park Lodge
At Dio-Met Fabrications Ltd, we take pride in delivering high-quality, safe, and durable solutions for our clients. One of our recent projects involved supplying toughened and laminated glass for a caravan park lodge in the stunning coastal setting of Cardoness, Scotland. This project not only showcases our commitment to safety and craftsmanship but also highlights the importance of choosing the right materials for demanding environments like caravan parks.
The Project: Safety-First Balconies with Toughened and Laminated Glass
For the Cardoness caravan park lodge, we supplied toughened and laminated glass for the balcony installations. Unlike many other balconies on the site, which rely solely on 10mm toughened glass, our solution prioritizes safety and compliance with industry standards, specifically BS6180. This British Standard outlines requirements for barriers, including those without handrails, to ensure they provide adequate protection against falls.
Using only 10mm toughened glass, as seen in other balconies at the site, is inadequate and contravenes BS6180. If toughened glass breaks, it shatters into small granules, leaving no barrier to prevent falls—a significant risk, especially in environments like caravan parks, where children and pets are often present. By contrast, our toughened and laminated glass combines the strength of toughened glass with the safety of lamination. Even if the glass were to break, the interlayer holds the panel together, maintaining a barrier and significantly reducing the risk of injury or falls.
Given that caravan park lodges are frequently occupied by families with young children and dogs, we believe this safety issue cannot be overlooked. Our toughened and laminated glass provides peace of mind, ensuring that balconies remain secure and safe for all users, no matter how lively the holiday environment.
Coastal Considerations: Mirror-Polished Stainless Steel for Low Maintenance
As a coastal location, Cardoness is exposed to a high-salt environment, which can accelerate corrosion and wear on materials. For this project, we recommended and supplied mirror-polished stainless steel for the balcony framework over the more common satin-polished finish.
Caravan park lodges are often second homes, holiday homes, or Airbnb rentals, meaning they may not receive the same level of regular upkeep as primary residences. Mirror-polished stainless steel is an ideal choice for such settings due to its superior resistance to corrosion and lower maintenance requirements. Its smooth, reflective surface not only withstands the harsh coastal elements but also adds a sleek, modern aesthetic that enhances the lodge’s appeal to holidaymakers.
Privacy with Style: Frosted Laminated Glass Screens
In addition to the balcony glass, we supplied raised privacy screens using the same toughened and laminated glass, featuring a white interlayer to create a frosted, opaque appearance. These screens provide an elegant solution to shield occupants from neighboring vans, offering privacy without compromising on style. The frosted effect ensures a bright, airy feel while maintaining a sense of seclusion, making the lodge a more comfortable and inviting space for guests.
Why Choose Dio-Met Fabrications Ltd?
This Cardoness project exemplifies our commitment to safety, quality, and tailored solutions. By choosing toughened and laminated glass, we addressed critical safety concerns that standard 10mm toughened glass fails to meet. Our recommendation of mirror-polished stainless steel reflects our understanding of the unique challenges posed by coastal environments and the practical needs of holiday properties. The addition of frosted privacy screens further demonstrates our ability to combine functionality with aesthetic appeal.
At Dio-Met Fabrications Ltd, we strongly advocate for the use of toughened and laminated glass in environments like caravan parks, where safety is paramount. We encourage property owners and developers to prioritize materials that comply with BS6180 and withstand the demands of their surroundings.
