Our client’s Julie and Mark were undertaking a major renovation project and required a new steel staircase and landing balustrade. Since the staircase is located at the entrance to the property, they wanted to create a feature out of the stair and matching balustrade, and rightly so.

The general design of this floating staircase was formed with a fully welded ‘zig-zag’ tread and riser system clad  to the underside with oak boards with no requirement for any supporting posts, creating a clean and airy finish underneath.

The open side of the staircase was protected with custom steel fabricated railings to match in with a design sketch sent from the client. The railing system continues up the staircase and around the gallery landing and creates an effortlessly modern but fuss-free finish.

All the base steelwork and railing/ balustrade was powdercoated black and the top landing was fixed with a full length base plates using coachscrews, left in a contrasting zinc finish to create a semi-industrial aesthetic as the only fixings seen in this design.

DioMet were contracted to provide a full service of site survey, AutoCAD design, custom fabrication and professional installation. The oak boarding / cloaking and carpets were installed by others.
