Frameless Glass Juliet Balcony

Our frameless glass juliet balconies could not be much more simplistic in design as they use simply two main components; glass and the associated glazing clamps. Simple.

To create a frameless juliet balcony legally, toughened and laminated glass must be used to comply with BS6180 or otherwise the glass must be used in conjuntion with a handrail. For the infinity style view, where only glass is used, the lamination process ensures that if the glass were to break for any reason, it would remain in place as an effective fall barrier until such time that it can be replaced. Unfortunately in this online world, there are some cowboys out there (those that are not CE marked to BS1090) supplying a single sheet of 12mm toughened glass to cover spans of 2.4metres which quite frankly beggars belief. 

A frameless glass juliet balcony, or any external juliet balcony for that matter, must be able to resist a loading of 0.74kN for a domestic property, have no gaps greater than 100mm and be installed at a minimum height from finished floor level of 1100mm – these are the most simplistic set of rules to follow that are clearly set out in the building regulations. As of July 2014, any supplier of such a fall barrier (structural product) must be able to certify the goods with a Declaration of Performance under BS EN 1090. 

Now the legalities are cleared up, see below a fully certified Dio-Met balcony installation for our customer Tony in Sheffield. The frameless design used 4 fixing clamps per side to match up with the rough stonework and provide the most appropriate stable fixing. Within the required 4 week period we surveyed, designed, manufactured and installed the balcony system and received a short thankful email from Tony below :
