Dio-Met have recently completed a modern staircase and balcony project in the Kensington / Hammersmith area of London with a full service undertaken including site survey, design, manufacture and installation.
The general design for this glass balcony and metal staircase briefly comprises :
- Galvanized and powdercoated steel support structure in light grey
- Dio-Met’s frameless System 4 aluminium base channel balustrade with 17.5mm toughened and laminated clear glass panels.
- Checkerplate steel tread plates to staircase
- 33mm toughened and laminated floor glass panels to landing
As with many London townhouses, there was no vehicular access to the rear of the property where the balcony and staircase were to be installed so consequently all materials were carried though the property. The balcony steelwork and staircase were largely kit form and designed to bolt together in situ with the main support post being offset to maintain good access to the narrow pathway below.
33mm thick toughened and laminated walk on glass panels were used on the landing to ensure a thoroughly modern looking design and to allow natural light to flow through the balcony and into the room below. The glass edges were all backpainted in a light grey colour to match the steelwork and disguise the neoprene gaskets and the top surface treated with our invisible chemical non slip system.
The new balcony and staircase now offer a visually attractive modern solution for our client to access the lower rear garden area, completed pictures below :

All our metal balconies, glass balustrades and steel staircases are manufactured in our Sheffield workshops and shipped nationwide or indeed installed by our own fitters subject to location. All our structural steelwork is designed to meet the UK loading requirements for domestic use and formally certified with our UKCA mark system per BS EN 1090. Any deviations from building regulations requested are made fully aware to each customer prior proceeding at their own risk.
