Hinged Floor Frameworks
Hinged Floor Frameworks
‘Our hinged steel frameworks usually use walk-on-floor-glass for internal wine cellar stores or display cabinets however we also regularly get asked for hinged floor systems to match in with other floor coverings such as tiles or timber decking…..’
Our customer Graham had already ordered our Hinged Glass Floor System for use inside the property he was renovating and took inspiration from the concept to enquire whether we could make a similar system to form access hatches over an external Koi pond, which he could infill with his own composite deck boards. This is a fairly regular requirement and other customers have done the same with tiled floors, particularly in kitchens and for use as basement access doors.
Graham wanted to install three of our hinged floor systems into new decking area; one of which would be our standard structural glass unit and the other two would be made to support the composite decking boards that formed the floor covering. The overall effect is quite unique and looks really smart in this newly landscaped garden setting.
Although these hinged floor systems are not designed to be watertight, they can still be used externally with the appropriate metal treatment and in this example being watertight really didn’t matter as the units were placed over a Koi carp pond, forming access panels for pump maintenance.
All our hinged floor systems are manufactured in our Sheffield workshops, using locally sourced materials. Each unit is manufactured with gas-struts to allow assisted opening and safe closing with optional extras such as locks (used in example picture, next to the pull rings) and non-slip glass coatings.
