The Invisifix Revolution: Minimalist Elegance Mark’s home in Shrewsbury required a total architectural reset for the entrance hall. The goal was to remove the visual clutter of a traditional staircase and replace it with a system where the glass appears to emerge seamlessly from the timber.
-
The Invisible Connection: We engineered a bespoke steel stringer that incorporates a hidden channel for the glass. Once the glass is set, solid oak cover plates are fitted over the junction, hiding all mechanical bolts and clamps.
-
Modern Material Palette: The combination of the industrial anthracite steel spine, the warmth of the oak treads, and the transparency of the glass creates a balanced, contemporary aesthetic.
-
Maximized Light: By removing vertical spindles and bulky newel posts, the new staircase acts as a conduit for natural light, pulling illumination from the upper floor down into the hallway.
Technical Expert Insight: Solving the "Clutter" of Glass Fixings
The most common complaint with modern glass staircases is the visibility of the "disks" or bolts used to hold the glass in place. For Mark’s Shrewsbury project, we solved this using our Invisifix technology. We designed a structural recess within the steel spine itself where the glass is secured using a dry-glaze internal clamping system. This is then entirely concealed by our bespoke oak cover plates. This isn't just an aesthetic choice; it eliminates the dust-traps and "cleaning snag points" associated with standard glass clamps. The result is a clean, architectural line that emphasizes the premium materials—steel, glass, and oak—without the distraction of visible hardware.
