Our steel and glass walk out balconies have been exceptionally popular this year and our latest example is an absolute whopper! Supplied and installed for our customer Rajesh in Fulwood, this huge first floor balcony system has transformed the rear property elevation from a dangerous rotting timber structure, to a useable and attractive balcony, made to last.

The steel framework and support columns are all galvanized and powdercoated finish with the surrounding balustrade system being constructed of brushed finish stainless steel posts and handrails with 10mm clear toughened glass infills. The whole balcony flooring was finished with our premium textured composite decking in light oak finish.

The end elevations towards the neighbouring properties feature our raised 1.8metre high privacy screening with frosted opaque glass panels. A handrail is maintained at 1.1metres high, offset internally.

The upright support posts used were positioned sympathetically, centralised around a set of French doors and located in such a way as to avoid any visual disruption to the garden when looking out through any of the ground floor windows and doors.

Rajesh opted for our full service for his walk out balcony including survey, design, manufacture and installation and the whole journey took around 6 weeks. Our process of quality control includes fully trial-building the balcony in our workshop prior to any external metal treatment, as can be seen below- This beast took up most of our floorspace in the main workshop….

Our walk out balcony structures are made to stand the test of time and the expected lifespan of the steelwork is well over 50 years. All the base metalwork is hot-dip galvanized to protect against the elements then fettled, T-washed and finally powdercoated.

The powdercoating paint finish is smooth but robust and can be expected to last around 15 years before any repainting may be required. The whole balcony will require a low level of maintenance, including the composite decked flooring– simply keeping the balcony clean like any other item (your car or windows for example) is good practice to help it look great for years to come.

We are proud to say that all our walk out balcony systems are handled internally and therefore we only ever use our own surveyors, draughtsmen, fabricators and installers with none of these services sub-contracted out.  All our raw materials and steelwork finishes are sourced locally (Yorkshire) where possible including all the metal, deck boards, glass panels, galvanizing and powdercoating.

And finally, it is of course important to note that all our balcony and balustrade systems are fully building regulation compliant and supplied with the relevant certification to BS EN 1090-2 aka CE marking as is legally required for any structural product- a criteria many of our ‘competitors’ are not meeting.
