Supporting local business and national trading is not a new concept but it’s one that we take very seriously. DioMet are a long established steel fabrication company in Sheffield and we plan to remain strong within the industry despite its decline in recent years and source materials as locally as possible.

Steel production in Sheffield has declined massively in the space of a few decades but working with steel in the architectural metalwork industry is still buoyant and provides many opportunities to work with other local companies for a variety of production processes.

At DioMet, we love to keep things local which is why over 90% of our raw materials are sourced from local Yorkshire-based suppliers and we outsource certain production needs only to other Sheffield based companies. There is of course stiff competition and an influx of lesser quality materials and goods from other countries but we strongly believe both our products and service to be far superior, as well as our local business ethic.

Locally Sourced Materials / Processes

Toughened Glass- Although we are predominantly steel fabricators, almost as much glass passes through our workshop as metal and we have become one of the leading suppliers of toughened glass products to the private market as well as using vast quantities of glass in our commercial projects. All our toughened glass is currently sourced in Yorkshire and then dispatched nationwide via a Sheffield based courier company.

Raw Steel – All the carbon steel and stainless steel used in our products is sourced from Yorkshire businesses, predominantly Leeds and Sheffield. This steel is then processed in our Sheffield workshops into various architectural products found on our website including Juliet balconies, glass balustrade systems, handrails and metal staircases.

Processed Steel – Some steel is purchased in a manner that has although gone through one or more production techniques and 100% of this work is completed in Sheffield including laser cutting, bending, folding, rolling and shotblasting.

Fittings and Fixings

The vast majority of our products require some kind of mechanical fixing such as bolts, screws, nuts and washers all of which come from our reliable Sheffield sources. Most stainless steel components and fittings are either manufactured in our workshop or purchased through a local company a stone’s throw away.

Steelwork Finishes

Raw steelwork often needs a finish applied, and guess where we send all products to be finished? Yep, Yorkshire companies, mostly Sheffield based :

Powdercoating is all done in Sheffield.

Galvanizing is completed in Worksop and Hull.

Shotblasting and primer painting is undertaken in Sheffield.

Stainless steel polishing is handled by our Sheffield neighbours.
