Under-Stairs Wine Store Glass Doors with Brass Fittings — Warrington, Cheshire
Dio-Met surveyed, designed and installed a bespoke glass door system to enclose an under-stairs wine store at a home in Warrington, Cheshire. It is a variation of our under-stairs glass door system, finished with brass fittings rather than our usual stainless steel to suit the oak staircase and warm interior. The internal wine racking was supplied and fitted by Wineracks UK; we designed and installed the glass that shows it off and closes it in.

- Scope: Survey, design and installation of the glass door system by Dio-Met
The brief
Alan had a wine store planned for the space under his stairs and wanted it glazed in, so the racking is on show but kept clean, dust-free and out of the way. The staircase is oak with a warm, traditional feel, so brass fittings suited the room far better than stainless. The glass had to follow the line and angles of the staircase, give proper access to reach the wine, and take in an awkward lower corner, all made to measure to the space.
Design and installation
Dio-Met surveyed the opening and designed the glazing around the staircase and the Wineracks UK racking, then made and installed it. The system is 10mm clear toughened safety glass: a fixed end panel closes off one side, a hinged door opens for access to the wine, and a further fixed panel fills the low corner where the stairs come down. The proprietary fittings, including the door's pull handle, are brass; the corner post that frames the front is fabricated by us and painted in a RAL colour matched as closely as possible to the brass, so the whole thing reads together against the oak stairs. As vertical glass doors rather than a walk-on floor, the system is non-structural.
Expert insight
"Under-stairs glazing is all angles, no two panels the same, and it has to work around whatever racking is going in. Surveying it and making the door, the fixed panels and the corner infill to measure is what lets the glass follow the stairs cleanly and still give you easy access to the bottles."
Frequently asked questions
Can the under-stairs glass doors be made with brass fittings? Yes. We usually fit stainless steel, but as on this Warrington project we can use brass proprietary fittings, such as the pull handle, and paint the fabricated corner post in a RAL colour matched as closely as possible to brass, to suit a warmer or more traditional interior. See the standard under-stairs glass doors.
Do you make the glass to fit angled staircases and awkward corners? Yes. Every set is surveyed and made to measure, so the glass follows the stair line and takes in fixed panels for any low corners, with a hinged door for access.
Do you fit the wine racking too? On this project the racking was supplied and installed by Wineracks UK, and we designed and installed the glass door system around it. We are happy to work alongside your racking supplier.
Do you cover Warrington, Cheshire and beyond? Yes. This project is in Warrington (WA4). We manufacture in Sheffield and work nationwide, supply-only or surveyed and installed.
