Scope: Design, manufacture, and supply of a "Plug-and-Play" motorized walk-on glass hatch.

Key Features & Specialized Engineering

For this residential project in Fulwood, the client required a high-end, automated entrance for a spiral wine cellar. The goal was to eliminate the physical effort of traditional trapdoors while creating a visual "centrepiece" in the room.

• Structural Walk-On Glass: We utilized 25.5mm toughened and laminated safety glass, structurally rated for domestic "concentrated loads" (2kN) to ensure total safety when walked upon.

• Motorized Actuation: The system features a smooth-action electric motor operated via a wall switch or remote control, including a manual key override for safety.

• Safety First: The glass is treated with a non-slip coating (68 PTV), which significantly exceeds the UK's "low slip risk" requirements, making it safe for high-traffic kitchen or living areas.

• Plug-and-Play Electrics: Engineered for easy integration by the client's builder, requiring only a standard UK 3-pin socket for operation.

Technical Expert Insight: Anti-Slip PTV and Flush-Fit Logic

A common question when installing circular glass cellar doors is: "Will the glass be slippery if I walk on it with socks or wet feet?" For the Fulwood project, we utilized our unique anti-slip glass floor treatment that achieves a Pendulum Test Value (PTV) of 68. In the industry, anything over 36 is considered "low slip risk," so at 68, this glass provides exceptional grip without obscuring the view into the cellar. Additionally, while these units are designed to be flush fitted to the flooring, many customers choose to install over the existing flooring for a perfect finish, with the compromise being a 5mm perimeter ledge.
