Walkley Project: Custom Walkout Balcony with Bespoke Art Glass Privacy Screen
We recently completed a comprehensive project for our client, Katharine, in the Walkley area of Sheffield: the design, manufacture, and professional installation of a walkout balcony system at first-floor height. This installation is a perfect example of blending structural integrity with unique, personalised design features.
Project Scope and Technical Design
The core challenge of this project—which Katharine noted was "non standard to say the least"—was finding ways to execute her vision while maintaining compliance.

Structure: The frame was constructed from galvanised steel, providing superior weather resistance, followed by a durable powder-coated finish.

Decking: The floor surface was finished with composite decking, selected for its longevity, low maintenance, and non-slip properties.

Balustrade System: The front edge features a frameless base channel glass system using thick laminated safety glass, ensuring an uninterrupted view while meeting structural load requirements.
The Bespoke Privacy Screen & Art Integration
A key element of this project was the custom solution designed for the side boundaries of the balcony:

Raised Custom Privacy Screens: We manufactured raised metal frames integrated seamlessly into the main structure to create functional privacy screens.

Art Integration: These screens feature a truly unique bespoke glass infill system. It was designed to securely house our own safety-compliant glass panel alongside a customised moulding that allowed Katharine to install her unique painted glass artwork in between the structural supports. This transforms a standard safety feature into a stunning, personalized design masterpiece.

Our manufacturing process for the balcony frame is UKCA certified to BS EN 1090-2, providing a structurally certified and compliant elevated walkout balcony system.
