Metal Staircases
Internal and External Metal Staircases
“Although we display online guide prices for basic steel staircases, the reality is that all our fabricated metal stairs are made to order and essentially bespoke- just without the bespoke price tags. We offer a wide range of options available to customise your staircase design to suit your taste, and of course budget….”
Basic Metal Staircases
A simple staircase can be as straight forward as one single flight with handrails or balustrades to the open side. For such instances, all we really need to know is the height that the stair rises in order to quote a functional system- you can even obtain a quote online for stairs with upto a 3metre rise.
A typical stair construction will comprise 2no. side stringers with welded cleats, the treads and landing plates and any handrails / balustrading. All our basic staircases are supplied in ‘kit form’ with all assembly fixings and are simple to erect for any builder or handy tradesperson with no specialist tools required.
Most basic metal stairs will be hot-dip galvanized finish which is an industrial coating, suitable for use inside or outside and weather resistant for typically over 25 years.
Mid-High End Staircases
There are three main options for improving the aesthetics of a metal staircase; the steelwork finish, the balustrade style and the tread design all of which can transform a stair for use in different applications .
The most common and cost-effective improvement available is to have the staircase powdercoated. The smooth paint finish can be applied to some, or all elements of the stair and is available in almost any colour- doing so will soften the finish and provide a more attractive visual aesthetic.
A staircase balustrade (handrail guarding) would typically be a simple metal railing design which can be either upgraded in traditional settings with some ornate features or indeed swapped out altogether in favour of a different system- glass balustrades for example are popular however options are endless.
The last upgrade that can be made to any staircase is to choose a different tread detail or design. A simple stair would usually use either an open mesh tread design which although practical, can often look a little industrial. The alternatives available are :
- Checkerplate metal treads
- Pan style treads – For decking board inlay, or screed infill
- Solid timber – Often chunky oak treads
- Glass- Structural glass can be used as a stair tread
Bespoke Metal Staircases
Although many stairs are simple, some can require multiple flights, kite winders, changes of direction or spiral designs to best fit the area available. For such a bespoke design we request that our customers provide as much information as possible so we can assist including pictures, dimensions, drawings or sketches.
