The Project: Turning a Garden Hazard into a Focal Point

In modern landscape design, features like old wells are often hidden away for safety. For this project, we worked alongside Selby Landscapes to transform a deep well opening into a stunning architectural centerpiece with our glass well cover system. Located at a beautiful period property in the Bath area, the goal was to provide a completely secure, walk-on surface that maintained the well's historic visual presence.

The Solution: Structural Integrity with Premium Finish

We supplied a bespoke circular glass well cover system, engineered in our Sheffield workshop to integrate seamlessly with the client's new gravel and stonework patio.

• Custom Steel Framework: We fabricated a robust, circular steel support frame designed to sit flush with the finished ground level, providing a secure seat for the heavy structural glass.

• Structural Walk-on Glass: The unit features a high-specification laminated safety glass panel, fully rated for foot traffic. This ensures the well remains a safe part of the usable garden space.

• Aesthetic Painted Border: To achieve a professional finish, the glass was manufactured with a black painted border on the underside. This hides the internal framework and seals from view, leaving only the clear view of the illuminated well below.

• Weather-Resistant Coating: The metalwork was finished in a durable, weather-resistant coating to ensure longevity in the external garden environment.

The Result

The finished installation (as seen in the project image) perfectly balances safety and style. By using a clear glass cover instead of a traditional solid lid, the client has preserved a piece of the property's history while creating a contemporary feature that provides a unique sense of depth to the garden.
