The Project: Bespoke Glass Flooring in the Golden Triangle
Located just over the Peak District from our Sheffield workshop, this project in Alderley Edge required a high-specification glazing solution for a large, elevated walk-out balcony. We worked closely with the client, who had already prepared a stunning timber frame, to provide the structural steel and specialist glass components required to finish the space to a premium standard.
The Solution: A Full Turnkey Service
Dio-Met provided a comprehensive survey, supply, and installation service to ensure a millimeter-perfect fit.
-
Structural Glass Floor: We engineered and supplied large-format, walk-on glass floor panels, supported by a bespoke steel framework integrated into the customer’s timber structure.
-
Frameless Glass Balustrades: To provide safety without interrupting the Cheshire countryside views, we installed a frameless glass balustrade system around the entire perimeter of the balcony.
-
Site Survey & Install: Given the precision required for walk-on glass, our team conducted a full site survey and managed the complex installation on-site.
Integrated Privacy Screening with Frosted Glass
To ensure the new terrace remained a private retreat, we incorporated a raised, framed glass privacy screen on the side of the balcony facing the neighboring property. This feature utilized a bespoke steel framework designed to match the main balustrade, inset with sandblasted frosted glass panels. This choice of material offers the perfect balance between utility and design; it provides a high level of obscurity for total privacy while still allowing soft, diffused light to pass through. The result is a secure and secluded outdoor space that does not feel closed off or dark, maintaining the premium aesthetic of the entire Cheshire installation.
Maximizing Natural Light for the Interior Below
A primary objective for this Alderley Edge installation was to ensure that the large balcony did not overshadow the living space directly beneath it. By utilizing structural walk-on glass panels across the entire floor area, we allowed natural light to flood the room below, maintaining a bright and airy atmosphere that a traditional timber or composite deck would have blocked. This functional transparency not only enhances the interior environment but also creates a striking architectural feature when viewed from both inside the home and out on the terrace.
The Result
A seamless blend of traditional timber and modern glass. This project demonstrates our ability to travel across the North West and Midlands to deliver UKCA certified architectural metalwork. Whether you are located in Cheshire, the Peak District, or nationwide, we provide the same level of precision and craftsmanship.
