Tinted Glass Balustrades

Using tinted toughened glass in a balcony or balustrade system can enhance the visual appearance and provide a mid-range level of obscurity between the two most frequently bought systems using clear or frosted glass.

What is tinted glass?

Known as ‘body tinted glass’, this type of glazing is produced by the addition of metal oxides to the float glass composition and transform the otherwise clear panel into a coloured alternative. The addition of such metal oxides does not affect the properties of the glass in terms of it’s strength but there would be a change to the solar energy transmission.

What colour tints are available?

Dio-Met currently offer bronze, grey and blue tinted toughened glass panels in 10mm thickness. The tint of the glass is consistent throughout the whole fo the glass panel to provide a clean, professional finish.

Why use tinted glass?

Tinted glass panels offer an increased level of sun-protection by absorbing solar energy and reducing its transmission through the glass. The overall effect could be described in loose terms as looking through sunglasses.

Tinted glass will provide a higher level of privacy than clear glass, but remain more transparent than a frosted panel. Tinted glass can therefore be used as a happy-medium between the two, or a ‘best of both worlds’.

Is toughened glass green tinted?

We used to offer green tinted glass for sale, however it has become difficult to get hold of in recent times though the manufacturers. Standard toughened glass, although having a green tinge is not ‘tinted’ as such- It does however have an iron content that will provide the green hue that can be seen through the glass, especially prominent when viewed on the edges.

Although we offer (at present) our balustrade and balcony systems for sale online with only clear or frosted glass, tinted glass is an option available so please contact us to discuss a quotation.
