Some recent small projects over the Christmas period include a large triangular glass blanking panel for a staircase void, feature walk on floor glass panel and a stepped glass balustrade to the rear garden of a private residence. These three examples show how toughened glass can be used for different applications in and around your house.

Stepped Glass Balustrade

This simple glass balustrade design features tubular steel handrail and post framing to clear toughened glass panel infills. The balustrade guards a fall in height from the patio below and acts as a functional handrail for access and egress up the garden steps.

Each glass panel in the system is stepped to suit the wall below and raking on top to follow the handrail line. Posts are resin anchor fixed into the masonry wall and finished with dome nuts. All metalwork is galvanised and powdercoated black.

Walk-on Floor Glass Feature

A steel framework was fabricated to infill a floor void and support and protect a walk-on glass floor panel. The glass panel was used to form a feature of displaying pipework and electrics in the floor of a private residence and match in with the industrial aesthetic theme. The glass used was 25.5mm thick toughened and laminated.

Glass staircase Infill

This example comes from a customer renovating his property and indeed the staircase, removing old timber spindles to replace with a single triangular pane of glass with stainless steel clamping brackets. The glass allows greater light transfer, looks much more clean and modern and will make a dark area of a house seem brighter and roomier.
