Glass Canopies, Balustrades and Well Covers.
Example Projects Round-Up
In the architectural glass and metalwork trade, every day is different, especially when you are a bespoke manufacturer that tailors projects to individual customer requirements. Here at DioMet we believe this variety contributes to our long-standing workforce and low staff turnover levels.
So although we place a number of standard products on the market, there is always a need for a customised variation that will require one of our many services such as site surveying, AutoCAD design detailing, custom manufacturing or professional installation.
Below we discuss some example projects from recent weeks.
Bespoke Glass Canopy System
Our client in this example required an oversized toughened glass canopy to cover two adjacent door openings in a new-build property development. The glazed canopy was required to project further forward than a standard design and thus required additional supporting framework.
The canopy was to be suspended from above, similar in principle to our T2 Modern Glass Canopy but was upgraded to a larger tie-rod system to cope with the increased loading and weight bearing capacity required. The underside of the canopy was framed with a stainless-steel tubular skeleton supporting the weight of the glass and stopping it from sagging when placed under stress.
Glass Balcony Balustrade with Tinted Glass
Our System 10 powdercoated glass balustrade was used in this example by a private customer on their balcony veranda. The design of the balcony was one that required a higher level of privacy than would be achieved with clear glazing but that remained clear enough to see through to the view beyond. The answer in this scenario was to use a grey tinted toughened glass that complimented the whole design, bringing about a sleek and modern yet discreet appearance.
The framed design features tubular upright baluster posts, matching steel handrail with wall attachments and toughened safety glass infill panels. In this example the steelwork was powdercoated to the popular RAL colour 7016 which is what many doors / windows are finished with; also known as anthracite grey.
Laminated Glass Well Cover
One of the most popular additions to our range is the toughened and laminated glass well cover. Our client for this example had discovered the well when re-landscaping the garden and decided to make a design feature out of it by including a walk-on glass panel and mood lighting from below.
The well cover really comes into its own in the evening when the back-lit LED’s are turned up to produce an atmospheric glow from below. The structural glass was installed within support framework and was the final piece in this landscaping puzzle.
