A walk-out Juliet balcony with metal balustrade — a Juliet you can step out onto, with traditional railings rather than glass.
UKCA certified — a legal requirement, not a badge
UKCA marked to BS EN 1090-2, as all our steelwork is. A legal requirement rather than a badge, and on a new build it forms part of the building control sign-off. Not every railing on the market carries it.
Cantilevered — no posts to the ground
The platform is carried entirely off the wall, so nothing comes down to ground level. No foundations, nothing standing in the garden, and nothing to work around underneath.
There are two support options and the choice is yours. Heavier bracketry alone, with no tie rods, keeps the whole support below the platform. A slimmer gallows frame with tie rods reduces what sits underneath but runs rods up to the wall above. Neither is an upgrade on the other; say which you prefer when you enquire.
It projects up to 1200mm, with a metre the usual choice — room to step out, stand a couple of pots, reach the windows.
Metal railings suit a period or traditional property better than glass, and they cost less. If you would rather keep the view open, the same platform is available with a glass balustrade.
What it hangs off
It will hang off any solid, flat surface. Gallows brackets put real load into a wall, so that is the condition we work to.
We do not assess or assert what the wall is built from. If that needs establishing — and on an older house it often does — a structural engineer is the person for it. What we certify is a balcony fixed to a solid surface, not the surface it is fixed to.
How it is built
- Steel joists, galvanised and powder coated to suit the span. Cheaper systems use timber, which rots, warps, burns and needs maintaining; ask what is under the deck when you compare prices.
- Composite decking as the walking surface. Anthracite grey as standard; other colours cost extra.
- Metal railings as the guarding. That is the only part that differs across our walk-out range; the deck and the structure under it are the same on all of them.
Sizing and what is included
The listed sizes stop at 2000 x 1000mm. We can build to 2400mm wide x 1200mm deep, but not off the calculator — a bigger platform needs heavier steel sections and a gallows design worked out to suit it, so those are quoted individually. Ask if that is the size you are after.
- Made to your own dimensions — the standard sizes listed are for pricing, not a limit
- All steelwork, glass and fittings, supplied in bolt-together kit form
- Assembly fixings included; base and wall fixings are separate, because they depend entirely on what you are fixing to
- UKCA marked to BS EN 1090-2 — a legal requirement for structural steelwork, on domestic work as much as commercial
- Structural calculations available on request
Finish
Hot dip galvanised for the corrosion protection, then powder coated in your choice of colour for domestic work. Our material and finish standards page covers both.
Which walk-out balcony do you need?
Two families. A step-out Juliet like this one projects about a metre and hangs off the wall. Full walk-outs go further out and are properly supported, with a choice of three balustrade styles.
- Walk-out juliet with glass balustrade
- Walk-out juliet with metal balustrade — the one you are looking at.
- Framed glass balustrade — glass in a steel frame, the practical all-rounder
- Infinity frameless glass — no frame at the sides, nothing interrupting the view
- Ornate wrought iron — traditional railings for a period property
Before you order
See our balcony and Juliet building regulations guide for guarding heights and loadings, and the retrofitting guide if the house never had one.
Delivery and installation
Shipped anywhere in the UK, bolt-together, with the assembly fixings in the box.
We also fit, as an optional extra, using our own teams rather than subcontractors. Worth pricing alongside the balcony rather than after it.
Call 0114 243 9009 or email sales@diometonline.co.uk. A photograph of the opening and the wall around it is usually enough to start.
A note on specification
Guidance only, and not a structural specification. Gallows brackets put real load into a wall; your engineer or building control should confirm the wall takes it.
