The Challenge: Secure Access without Visual Obstruction

For this residential project in Wortley, the client required a comprehensive perimeter for a stone patio that was safe for both children and dogs. The critical requirement was a matching glass gate that felt as substantial and secure as the main balustrade run, avoiding the "wobble" common in standard domestic gate kits.

• Framed Gate Design: Unlike frameless glass gates which can be prone to misalignment, we manufactured a full-framed stainless steel gate. This ensures the 10mm toughened glass is protected on all edges and provides a clear visual and physical boundary.

• Seamless Aesthetics: The gate hardware—including hinges and latching mechanisms—was designed to match to the brushed stainless steel System 2 uprights for a cohesive architectural finish.

• Child & Pet Safety: The gate was designed with specific height requirements to prevent climbing, while the clear glass allows for full supervision of the patio area from the house.

Technical Expert Insight: Engineering Gate Hinge Posts for Zero-Sag

Most installers treat a gate post like any other balustrade post, which is a mistake. A gate post is subject to constant torsional stress every time the gate is opened or closed. For Gary's project in Wortley, we utilized a heavy-wall 48.3mm stainless steel post specifically for the hinge side. By employing our core-drill fixing method, we anchored this post 300mm deep into the structural masonry beneath the paving. This ensures the gate never "sags" or drags on the floor, maintaining a perfect 5mm latch tolerance even after years of high-frequency use.
