Dio-Met supply and install a wide range of glass balustrade systems balustrades all over the UK and our latest example was completed for our customer Emily in Huddersfield. A full service was chosen to include site survey, design, manufacture and installation.

This glass balustrade design is a variation of our System 2 Glass Balustrade which uses 48mm satin polished stainless steel upright posts with clear glass infill panels and no handrails- a design often referred to as a semi-framed glass balustrade.

Our standard system 2 balustrade uses 10mm clear toughened glass and generally designed for use on low-level patios or raised patios where building regulation compliance is not required. In this example however, 13.5mm toughened and laminated glass was used with wider clamps to accommodate in order to be fully compliant.

The upright baluster posts to the upper garden wall were core-drill and grout fixed into the solid masonry wall and finished off with our usual base plate cover roses to tidy up the finish- so whilst this has the appearance of a bolted system base plate, it is a significantly more secure way of fixing.The balustrade to the staircase steps uses a handrail to aid access (and also a building reg requirement). 

A semi-framed balustrade is often the perfect choice for those who want a clean-looking glass balustrade without the obstruction in view of a handrail and without the significant additional expense of a fully frameless system whereby no posts are used, but much thicker structural glass is required.

As with all our metalwork we only ever use our own fabricators to manufacture our CE-marked glass balustrade and handrail systems and only ever install with our own professional fitters- never subcontractors. All our balustrade products are designed by our in-house technicians, fabricated in our Sheffield workshops and either delivered or installed nationwide.
