Glass Balustrades – Scarborough

“DioMet have completed the supply and installation of various stainless steel and glass balustrades for a residential property in Scarborough. The balustrades are used to the edge of a garden office and hot tub area, as well as to protect a fall in height on the tiered garden….”

This glass balustrade project was recently completed for our client Ian in Scarborough who required a mixture of stainless steel and glass balustrading to his rear garden. The balustrades were installed around his garden office and hot tub as well as to the edge of his patio and steps.

DioMet completed a full service of survey, design, manufacture and installation for this glazed balustrade project where two different systems were used and in line with current building regulations (BS6180) :

System 2 : Stainless steel posts with clear toughened glass infills were installed to the composite decked platform of a raised garden office building with adjacent hot tub. As the system does not guard a fall in height over 600mm, no handrails were required.  Each post in this area was coachscrewed into the perimeter decking joists.

System 1 : As above but with a handrail mounted over the top of the posts and glass. The handrail is required when guarding a fall in height over 600mm in order to be building regulation compliant. A matching handrail was also installed to the garden steps to aid access and egress between the two garden levels and integrated to connect with the end baluster post. All posts along the retaining wall were core-drill and grout fixed and supplied with cover roses to match the adjacent system 2 balustrade.

All the stainless steel tubes and fittings are 316G marine grade, brushed finish and the safety glass used was 10mm clear toughened glass with fully polished edges and 5mm radius corners.

Ian was delighted with the end result of these modern glass balustrade systems and has already commissioned some additional works.
