Dio-Met supplied bespoke stainless steel and glass balustrades for Haystax Inclusive Farms in Lanchester, a retreat designed for people with additional needs and disabilities and their families. As part of the site's renovation, our made-to-measure System 1 balustrades were used to make the lodges, hot tub decking, café and ramps both safe and attractive, ready for the grand opening.

The brief
Haystax were renovating the site and needed balustrades that would make the raised decking, lodges, café and ramps safe without closing in the views, all ready in a very short window for the grand opening. The balustrades had to suit existing ramps and lodge layouts, including stairs, angled sections and gates, and be straightforward for the Haystax team to fit themselves.
Design and supply
We proposed our System 1 stainless steel and glass balustrade, crafted from satin polished stainless steel with 10mm toughened safety glass infills, fully UKCA marked and Building Regulations compliant. Everything was made to measure to fit the existing ramps, lodges and decking, with made-to-measure quotations for the stairs, angled sections and gates. Because each part is manufactured to size and supplied in kit form, installation is straightforward for anyone with basic DIY skills, so the Haystax team were able to fit it themselves with our instructions and hit their opening date.
To make fitting as quick and error-free as possible, the posts are supplied fully assembled, with base plates, end caps, post tops and glass clamps already attached. The handrails come pre-drilled and tapped, cut to length with jointed connections, so they bolt straight together on site. That saves the installer time and cost, and takes the guesswork and mistakes out of the job.
Expert insight
"Supply-only doesn't mean off-the-shelf. Every panel here was made to measure for Haystax's ramps and decking, then supplied as a kit, so a capable team can fit it themselves and still get a precise, compliant result against a tight deadline."
Frequently asked questions
Do you supply glass balustrades as a DIY kit, supply-only? Yes. We make balustrades to measure and supply them in kit form with instructions, so a competent DIYer or site team can install them. This Haystax project was supply-only, fitted by their own team. The posts arrive fully assembled (base plates, end caps, post tops and glass clamps fitted) and the handrails come pre-drilled, tapped and cut to length with jointed connections, so there is very little to do on site.
What is the System 1 balustrade? System 1 is our stainless steel and glass balustrade: satin polished stainless steel posts and fittings with 10mm toughened safety glass infills, suitable for staircases, balconies, landings, decking and ramps.
Are your glass balustrades Building Regulations compliant and UKCA marked? Yes. System 1 is UKCA marked and designed to meet Building Regulations. Our glass balustrade building regulations guide explains the requirements.
Can you supply balustrades for decking, hot tubs, cafés and commercial leisure sites? Yes. We supply balustrades for decking, hot tub surrounds, cafés, holiday lodges and other commercial and leisure settings, made to measure and supply-only or, on other projects, installed.
